You Receive The Error "This email address has already been added" When Adding Your Account to Outlook 2016

Problem

During an email migration it is common to add your new Office365 account to Outlook 2016 before the cutover from the old server has finished.  However, the newest version of Outlook 2016 will not allow the addition of an email account with the same email address.


Solution

Add the account through the Mail application in Control Panel

  1. Make sure Outlook 2016 is closed.
  2. Open Control Panel.

  3. You will see the Control Panel application.  Click the Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2016) application.

    Note: Do NOT Click the regular Mail (non Outlook 2016) application.
  4. You will see the Mail Setup - Outlook application.  Click the Email Accounts... button.

  5. You will see the Account Settings dialogue and a list of existing accounts.  Click the New... button.

  6. You will see the Add Account dialogue.  Enter your full name, email address, and password and click Next.

  7. Your account will now be added and you can open Outlook 2016.
